I am in the final hours of the juice cleanse.
I am typing this on Friday evening, the end of Day 5. I cannot believe I made it this far. This is the longest I have ever gone in my adult life, without solid food.
Days 4 & 5 have been much easier than Days 2 & 3. The headaches are completely gone and my energy is high. My head feels so incredibly clear and my mood has been positive.
However, today I thought much more about food than the previous days. I thought about past meals I had before the cleanse, I thought about what people were posting on Instagram, I thought I would eat after the cleanse,…all day long, my thoughts seemed to be occupied with food. Even though this is being melodramatic, I felt this at times:
But, that was OK. I knew it would be over soon and that this discomfort was only temporary. I cannot say that I was not counting down the hours though.
As promised, the juice & one smoothie recipe are below. This is what we consumed all 5 days. The recipes were enough for juices for 2 people. They made anywhere between 16-24 ounces, depending on the juice.
Juice #1– 1 bunch of kale, 6-8 pieces of celery, 2 English cucumbers, 1 bunch of parsley, 1 lemon, 2 green apples. This one tastes very earthy and green, the apple adds some nice sweetness to it.
Juice #2– 2 apples, 2 English cucumbers, 1 head of romaine lettuce, 1 inch of ginger and 1 lemon. (Not all ingredients posted.) This one tastes fresh, crisp and refreshing.
Juice #3- 6 carrots, 2 apples, 1 beet, 1 lemon and 1 inch of ginger. I forgot to take a picture of this ingredients, so I stole one from here. This is one of my all time favorite juices! The flavors are strong, yet complement each other nicely.
Juice #4– 6 carrots, 1 pineapple, 1 lemon, 1 inch of ginger and 2 oranges. This may now be my new favorite juice…it was like a treat each afternoon. It was sweet and refreshing.
Drink #5 Smoothie– 2 bananas, 1 cup of frozen blueberries, 1 handful of spinach, 1 teaspoon of spirulina, 1 tablespoons of flax seed meal, 2 dates and water. We served them up in our Sam Adams beer cups for extra irony.
So that has been my menu the past 5 days. It has been an interesting experience and I will work on a future post with all my reflections, once the cleanse is completely over.
Hi! I see some of your jars aren’t filled to the top. Kris Carr talks about the oxidation or something of the juice once it’s juiced. I also saw you juice ahead of time, which she recommends not doing. What’s your thoughts on her…uh….thoughts? 🙂 I want to do this, but I can’t be juicing at work. HAHA I’d like to do what you do. 🙂
I think what she recommends is best…but not always realistic, at least for my life and schedule. What I have found is although it may not be the most optimal situation, it’s still beneficial and better for me than not doing anything.
