I did not mention it on the blog before, because I did not know if I would chicken out, or not, but I decided to do a 7 day juice cleanse, and as the title of this post implies, today is day 1. I have done a few other juice cleanses before, going as long as 5 days. After I finished the 5 day juice cleanse, I knew I wanted to try to go longer. It was just a matter of psychologically preparing myself for it. In past cleanses, I have found the psychological component to be the most challenging. I finally felt ready to go for it, and here I am.
I have decided to also incorporate some other detox components (both for a physical and psychological detox) into this cleanse. This will include; facial clay masks, eliminating negative self-talk, dry brushing, eliminating profanity, oil pulling, neti potting and taking a social media pause.
I planned out all the juices and have hopes of incorporating light exercise each day, as well as meditation. However, I will post what I actually complete, as I go. I plan to be intuitive and listen to how I feel. From past cleanses, I know that there may be days I do not feel like I can properly cope with life outside the parameters of my couch.
A brief breakdown of Day 1: (All ingredients listed are for 2 juices, approximately 16-20 ounces)
5:00 AM-My day started like most other days, with lemon water, cayenne and apple cider vinegar.
9:30 AM-I waited waaaaay too long to drink my first juice. I was pretty hungry by the time I finally retrieved it. I was on our school’s football field most of the morning, assisting with graduation practice, in preparation for this week’s ceremony.
1 tablespoon of spirulina, 1 bunch of kale, 1 bunch of celery, 2 green apples, 1 bunch of parsley, 1 lemon and 1 inch of ginger
11:30 AM-Once graduation practice was over, I sat down at my desk to catch up on the emails that piled up in my absence. I am incorporating more of tonic like drinks, once per day, during this cleanse. This is: 1.5 cups of coconut probiotics, turmeric, 2 lemons, 1 inch of ginger and a generous sprinkle of cayenne.
12:30 PM-I chugged my Cosmic Cranberry Kombucha. This is one of my favorite drinks and an occasional indulgence. I thought it may feel like a welcome treat and I was right!
3:00 PM-As I wrapped up my checklist for the day, I sipped on my Savory juice. This is one of my favorites! I reminds me Willy Wonka’s dinner gum. I feel like I get a full meal, in one juice. It is incredibly flavorful and reminds me of salsa. Does it sound crazy that I like to drink salsa? 1 tomato, 2 cucumbers, 1 bunch of cilantro, 2 red bell peppers, 1 lemon, 1 inch of ginger, 6 carrots and a generous sprinkle of cayenne pepper.
4:30-Gym time! I was feeling pretty decent in my energy levels, so I was happy to stick with my plans at the gym. I did 20 minutes on the stair stepper, accompanied by my book, some lower body strength training and 10 minutes in the sauna.
6:00 PM-I was more than ready for my next juice, I was feeling pretty depleted after the gym. I gulped down my next juice, while prepping tomorrow’s juices. 3 beets, 2 green apples, 1 lemon, 1 inch of ginger.
7:00 PM-Once we were done juicing and cleaning, I was ready for a smoothie! I drank 2 cups and actually felt full! 2 bananas, 1.5 cups of frozen blueberries, 2 handfuls of spinach, 1 tablespoon of spirulina, 2 tablespoons of flax seed meal and 3 cups of coconut water.
Additional detox of the day: clay facial mask
I have loved facial masks since I was a teenager. I probably have more fun with it, than any one person ever should. My current favorite is red clay in dryer areas and green clay, in more oily areas.
I mix in 2 drops of lavender + 3 drops of jojoba oil in the red & 2 drops of tea tree oil in the green.
Too.Much.Fun.
This combination leaves my skin feeling extra clean (it’s great for blackheads, which I am prone to around my nose) and glowing from the jojoba oil.
I am feeling great at the end of day 1. However, I expected this first day to go pretty well. I have been doing 1 day juice cleanses nearly every Monday, since completing my 5 day juice cleanse, so my body is pretty used to this. Tomorrow, the true challenge begins, when I realize that I will not be breaking my fast, in the morning.
I will try my best to check in here each day of the cleanse, but I still want to be intuitive with myself and not
“I know that there may be days I do not feel like I can properly cope with life outside the parameters of my couch.” I’m loving this line!! Angelina, if you’re going to do a cleanse – I need to do a cleanse!
Somedays, life outside the couch, too much!!!
Wow – good luck for tomorrow! I find doing just a one day juice cleanse is a terrific challenge – so hats off to you for attempting seven days!
Thank you very much!
I’m so impressed! These cleanses can be so good for you, but I can never stick to them!
Thank you. It can definitely be a challenge.
You can do it!! ❤
Thank-you! All the support helps.
