Why Veganism?

Vegans do no just eat salad.

I have been vegetarian since March 2006 (you can read all about my Road to Vegetarianism here) and vegan since August 2012 (you can read about that transition here).

The main reason I am vegan is for the animals. It is a huge ethical conflict for me to eat animals. It had been for a long time, before I finally gave it up and adapted a lifestyle that strives to cause the least amount of harm possible.

I do not know what the perfect vegan looks like, but I am far from that. Sometimes I eat something without reading all the ingredients. I only recently got rid of my leather Birkenstocks and tossed out my MAC make-up. I sometimes kill bugs and still have a hard time with the vegans & honey debate. I think my pillow may even be filled with goose feathers.  I will say upfront that I am not looking to be the poster girl for PETA, I just want to live ahimsa (non-violence) and make choices that cause the least amount of harm to other living beings and the planet.

I have no desire to cast judgement or my own perspective on anyone else. I am, however, open to discuss, answer questions or support anyone who is interested in incorporating more animal-free meals into their diet, or has questions about what the benefits are of making these choices.

I am vegan for the animals, but I also know it is the best thing for my body, mind, heart and soul. It has become a way of life for me, and I am still learning each step of the way.
